Today, the United States Supreme Court has overturned a constitutional right previously granted. This decision sets a new precedent that is contrary to the legal system that is built on precedence.

For almost half a century, women have relied on the Supreme Court to defend their constitutional right to make personal decisions regarding their bodies and families. Overturning legal precedents like Roe v. Wade without acknowledging the potential harm to women and racial and ethnic minorities is a significant injustice. Today is a time for reflection and contemplation. This should not be the beginning of the unraveling of the hard-won victories for women or civil and human rights.

Regardless of a person’s personal beliefs, the rule of law and upholding and defending the Constitution of the United States of America should prevail. Regrettably, today’s decision was based on political gamesmanship rather than the rule of law.
